Postdoctoral Researcher
The National Center of Competence in Research nccr – on the move aims to enhance the understanding of contemporary migration patterns. Transcending disciplines, the NCCR brings together research projects from the social sciences, economics and law. Managed from the University of Neuchatel, the network comprises eleven Higher Education Institutions in Switzerland.
At the University of Basel we have an open position for a Postdoctoral Researcher (4 years, 80 % FTE)
Short description of vacancy: The successful applicant is expected to contribute to a research project on Perimeters of Multilayered Democratic Citizenship in a Mobile and Multicultural World (Case Studies Brussels and Montreal), led by Profs. Matteo Gianni, University of Geneva, and Walter Leimgruber, University of Basel. The start date will be 1 July 2018 (or as agreed upon), for a period of four years.
Requirements:
– Excellent Doctorate in social sciences (preferably Cultural Anthropology), dealing with mobility and migration issues, defended no later than four years ago (date of viva voce);
– Excellent knowledge of qualitative methodologies (in particular semi-structured interviews and participant observation).
– Excellent written and oral command of English and French is required. Knowledge of Dutch and German is an asset.
– Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations with other nccr – on the move researchers.
Regular attendance of NCCR events at the University of Neuchatel, or elsewhere in Switzerland, is expected.
Benefits: The salary and working conditions (activity percentage etc.) are in accordance with the regulations of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The nccr – on the move offers support measures for researchers with childcare duties.
