Assistant Professor of Sociology-CEU
Assistant Professor of Sociology
Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology
Central European University
The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Sociology.
A leading program in Europe, we seek an outstanding candidate who will enhance our existing research strengths, and who can contribute to the department’s core teaching in sociology.
Methods training is one of the hallmarks of our department, and the ideal candidate will have strong competence in quantitative methods along with the ability to impart these to an interdisciplinary student body. With a PhD in Sociology, she or he will flourish in an international and bi-disciplinary department with a commitment to critical social science. While applications from outstanding candidates in all areas of specialization are welcome, we especially invite applications from scholars studying contemporary global inequality as manifested in, or caused by, processes such as environmental change, migration, digital inequality, and economic transformations. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a proven track-record of high-impact English-language publications, an ambitious research program, and a track record in winning or a willingness to solicit grants.
A research university, CEU’s teaching loads reflect this mission and the role provides excellent research opportunities in an international and intellectually stimulating environment. The department is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and is known for its highly motivated and diverse student body and faculty.
We currently have 40 MA students across two different programs, with an almost equal number of PhD candidates. As of September 2020, faculty may also be expected to teach in one of CEU’s newly accredited BA programs in Vienna. The department is accredited in the US.
