Convocatoria: Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Latin American Studies

The position as senior lecturer in Latin American studies mainly involves teaching in English, as well as supervision, examination, research and outreach activities.

Main responsibilities

The position as senior lecturer in Latin American studies mainly involves teaching in English, as well as supervision, examination, research and outreach activities. Teaching may also be conducted in Spanish or Portuguese. The holder of the position is expected to carry out teaching, supervision and examination at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. At the bachelor’s level, they are expected to be able to teach all areas of the subject. The position also involves conducting research, initiating and leading research projects, actively seeking external funding for the department’s research, staying informed about developments in the field of research, as well as working on the Institute’s journal, Iberoamericana – Nordic Journal of Latin American Studies. In addition, the holder of the position should be prepared to undertake administrative and management duties as, for example, director of studies, director of the institute or head of department.

Qualification requirements

In order to qualify for employment as a senior lecturer, the applicant must have demonstrated teaching skills and have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject or an equivalent degree from another country. In addition, the position requires documented skills in conducting social-science or cultural research on Latin America, as well as teaching with a focus on Latin America. The applicant should be qualified to teach as many components as possible in our range of courses in Latin American studies at the bachelor’s and master’s levels (see the course directory)and have the ability to develop our courses together with the rest of the teaching staff. The doctoral degree must be completed before the deadline for applications. The applicant should demonstrate documented academic proficiency in spoken and written English and Spanish or Portuguese, as well as experience of teaching in English. The candidate should have the ability to cooperate, as well as the ability and general suitability required to perform the duties well.
