At the University of Bremen at the SOCIUM, Research Center on Inequality and Social Policy, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Haunss invites applications for the following academic position within the BMBF funded research project

Protest and Social Cohesion: Comparing Local Protest Dynamics

Postdoc (f/m/d)
German federal pay scale E13 TV-L (100%)
Start date: as soon as possible
Application date: 24.8.2023

for an initial period until 31.05.2024.

Provided that the already submitted follow-up application of the project is approved the term of the position will be extended by another 45 months.

Responsibilities: 

  • Independently conducting a comparative study on local protest dynamics in Germany as well as two other countries in Eastern and Western Europe
  • Participation in the collection of protest event data for the period 2010–2025
  • Participation in scientific publications on the project results and in transfer activities aimed at decision makers and the public
  • Collaboration within the Research Institute on Social Cohesion

Recruitment requirements:  

  • Completed university studies and completed doctorate in political science, sociology or a closely related discipline
  • Thematic knowledge of research on social movements and protest
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods (ideally in the area of quantitative text analysis) and ability to confidently work with R and/or Python
  • Ability to work in a team and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Very good language skills in one Eastern European language and good to verty good skills in German and English
  • Knowledge of network analysis, protest event analysis, and automatic text analysis is desirable
