Inequality as a factor behind polarisation and violent extremism
BRaVE
Building Resilience against Violent Extremism and Polarisation
Online Workshop
30 de junio, 2020
10:00 to 11:30 A.M (CET)
The workshop is organised within the framework of the BRaVE project (Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism and Polarisation, http://brave-h2020.eu/, an EU Horizon 2020-fundedresearch project) by one of the project partners, the Center for Policy Studies (CPS https://cps.ceu.edu/) at the Central European University. The event will take place on Tuesday, the 30th of June 2020, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. (CET).
The purpose of the workshop is to consider connections between polarisation and extremism, particularly in view of social and economic inequalities. We are keen to highlight the role of crises because they often strain pre-existing socio-economic divisions and because, at time of writing, we find ourselves in an unprecedented global health crisis that will have far-reaching and long-lasting social and economic impacts. The workshop will tackle questions of polarisation and social inequalities, the link between socio-economic inequalities and extremist ideologies, pathways into violent extremism, discrimination and real and perceived inequalities and their relevance in extremism.
Speakers:
Tahir Abbas, Leiden University Nigel Copsey, Teesside University
Renata Franc, Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar
Please register by Friday, 26 June by emailing vidrazs@ceu.edu and zeller_michael@phd.ceu.edu
