Educator | National Nurses United
Faculty/Educator, National Nurses United (AFL-CIO NNU)
National Nurses United, AFL-CIO (NNU) invites applications from academic and political educators to join our growing education faculty. NNU educators draw on social, political, and economic analysis to develop and teach courses in our online certificate programs in Health Inequity and Care (American University) and Women’s Global Health Leadership (Rutgers University). Educators also teach similar content with a healthcare-related focus in 6-hour continuing education courses for nurses. We seek applicants with a record of excellence and creativity in university level teaching; a background and/or research related to social justice; and a strong commitment to advancing registered nurses’ broad-based social advocacy.
Position: This is a permanent full-time position based in the San Francisco Bay but with some travel. It is not a traditional labor educator or nursing education position and is housed fully outside of the university programs with which NNU partners. Teaching and travel obligations vary according to organizational need, calendar, and program growth.
Salary and Benefits: We provide a very competitive salary and benefit package including full family and domestic partner coverage, medical, dental, pension, and 401(k).
Basic Qualifications: A doctorate in a relevant discipline or interdisciplinary field, a commitment to social justice, the ability to work collaboratively, and a valid driver’s license. We encourage applicants from all disciplines, particularly: area studies, anthropology, economics, feminist studies, geography, history, international studies, political science, philosophy, science studies, sociology, and social psychology.
Additional Qualifications: Highly desirable attributes include familiarity with the epistemological contradictions inherent in workplace technologies and the impact on worker control, power and skill; the impact of financial systems and political-economic restructuring in general; the philosophy of science; and the history of working people’s movements.
Closing Date: Immediate permanent, full-time openings. Positions are open until filled. As a growing program, we expect to have additional openings in the future. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
